What Happens During a GAMCA Medical Examination?

A GAMCA medical examination confirms whether an applicant meets the health standards required to work or reside in a Gulf Cooperation Council country. Knowing what to expect can help you arrive prepared and move through each stage confidently.
The examination is completed at an approved medical center assigned through the WAFID system. While individual procedures can vary slightly, the main stages are consistent across centers.
1. Registration and Document Verification
When you arrive, reception staff will verify your appointment and identity. Your personal details must match the information on your medical slip, so check the spelling and passport number before your appointment.

- Passport-size photographs
- GAMCA / WAFID medical slip
- Required supporting documents
Staff may take a photograph and record biometric information before directing you to the examination area. Keep your documents with you until registration is complete.
2. Physical Examination
A licensed physician will conduct a general physical examination. This commonly includes measuring your height, weight, blood pressure and pulse, followed by checks of your vision, hearing, heart, lungs, abdomen and mobility.
Tell the physician about relevant medical history, current medication or previous surgery. Providing accurate information allows the clinical team to assess your health appropriately.
3. Medical Tests
The required laboratory and diagnostic tests screen for conditions listed in GCC medical fitness regulations. Most adult applicants can expect the following:
Blood and urine tests
Samples are collected for infectious disease screening and general health indicators.
Chest X-ray
A radiograph helps screen for tuberculosis and other significant lung conditions.
Additional tests may be requested based on your age, health history, occupation or destination country. Follow the center’s instructions carefully if further assessment is needed.
4. Final Evaluation
After each stage is complete, a physician reviews your examination findings, laboratory reports and chest X-ray. The center assesses the complete record against the applicable GCC medical fitness standards.
If a result needs clarification, the center may ask you to repeat a test or attend a follow-up examination. This does not automatically indicate an unfit result; it may simply be needed to confirm an unclear finding.
5. Medical Result and Next Steps
Once the evaluation is finalized, your status is updated in the WAFID system. Processing times vary, but results are often available within a few working days.
- Keep your medical slip and payment receipt safe.
- Check your status online using your passport and slip number.
- Follow instructions from your employer or visa processing agent.
- Contact the medical center directly if a result remains pending.
A “fit” status means the medical requirement is complete for your application. If you receive another status, seek clear guidance from the approved center about the result and any available next steps.
